Insane Stats
Yahoo Site Operator
Using Yahoo Stats
Of the three major search engines, Yahoo is by far the most useful when checking out a competitors incoming links.
In most cases Yahoo is a little slower at indexing sites, so you can be pretty sure that if Yahoo knows about the link so does Google. While Insane Stats will give you the number of links Yahoo has found pointing to your site, it is often good to know what the actual linking site are. For this you can go directly to Yahoo. By entering site:http://www.somesite.com (replace somesite with the site you want to check), you will get a list of the sites linking to this site.
There are also a couple valuable modifiers you can use. For example, at the time of this writing Yahoo displays 3460 links pointing to Affordable Video Conferencing . You can view the current by clicking Yahoo site Operator.
But this only shows the links pointing to this one page (any page, not just the index page can be used), it also includes links coming from the same domain. It is often useful to only see links coming from other sites. With the drop down box you can change this to links “Except from this domain”. Now you can see the strongest links pointing to this page. I often want to know the strongest links pointing to any page on this site, so I will also use the “to Entire Site” drop down.
You may have noticed I used the phrase “strongest links”. What does this mean and why would this be useful to a “link Spy”? Well, that is the topic of my next article.
